The score is proposed on three staves, allowing the constituent elements to be clearly identified: the bass pedal, absolutely permanent, the main song and the counterchant serving among other things as an introduction and interlude, the essential complementary harmonic parts. The key of G sharp minor induces the use of the double sharp, particularly in embroidery where Mussorgsky's particular spelling has been preserved. By its expressive, melancholy and haunting force, by the dimension of the melody always renewed and yet including numerous iterations, the revelation of such music in a class can constitute a true and decisive artistic event. This text can give rise to different listenings: the piano version by Mussorgsky and the orchestration by Ravel (use of the saxophone), other pieces from the "Tableaux"... (automatic translation)
