Universally known, this canon is built on the major triad of the first degree: in F major, F, A and C. The other notes should be understood as passing notes or non harmonic tone (bordatura). This harmonic stability responds to a rhythmic stability. This canon is a good opportunity to practice, through voluntary reciprocal listening, the superposition of a half note on two quarter notes. The same goes for the rhythmic development of the third phrase ("sonnez les matines"). (automatic translation)
