This traditional tune from Provence was taken up by Georges Bizet in his Suite for orchestra of the Arlésienne. A unison of female voices for the first verse, a canon between women and men for the second verse, a canon that we find in the rest of the Arlésienne, third and fourth verses in 4 voices, quite close to the harmony of Bizet. The words are those most commonly sung: it concerns the passage of the caravan of the three Wise Men who, following the star, go to Bethlehem to bring their offerings: song of the Epiphany therefore, at the beginning of January, but also well in the Christmas spirit.
