"Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" by Molière is a comedy-ballet featuring musical sequences composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully, musician of the King Louis XIV°. At the start of the first act, Monsieur Jourdain is serenaded: several songs and dances. After a few one-voice arias, there follows a trio in which each of the three voices, remarkably independent, are very expressive: "Ah! Qu'il est doux d'aimer quand deux cœurs sont fidèles" Ah! How sweet it is to love when two hearts are faithful. Monsieur Jourdain appreciates it.
To enhance this song during the concert, it is possible to add, before and after, a short amusing dialogue between the bourgeois, the music master and the dancing master. This dialogue is given in the score: it also allows us to place the work in its context.
