COSTELEY G. : Allons au vert bocage

4 mixed voices

The polyphony in imitation of a great lightness is in accordance with the playful subject. But also, a polyphony of perfection and balance that testifies to the complete mastery of writing for 4 voices by Guillaume Costeley, composer of the second half of the 16th century. The entire second part of this nimble song plays on a word whose first two syllables are repeated mischievously: "je mène, mène, mèneray la danse", vividly distributed in all the voices. The rhythmic writing is modernized to facilitate reading (quarter note) while remaining strictly consistent with the original text. Likewise, the lyrics have been modernized to allow a good perception by the listener.
