BRAHMS J. : Lullaby (Wiegenlied)

Noire pointée et croche en binaire. Anacrouse d'un temps.
Premier cycle, 2° année

Universally known, Brahms' Lullaby is in everyone's memory from early childhood. There are numerous transcriptions for various instruments; we often hear this melody played by music boxes. At three binary beats, the pace is calm and regular with an identical lifting for all the members of the phrase. The black dotted and eighth-note rhythm cell is placed twice differently in the measure, adding complementarily to the softness of the swing. Form AB. The second section of the melody introduces half notes, which lends an additional sense of calm. It is appropriate to refer to the accompaniment proposed by Brahms in his Lied, very simple with its tonic pedal in the bass. (automatic translation)
