BORODINE A. : In the steppes of Central Asia

Superposition de deux mélodies. Musique descriptive.
Deuxième cycle

“In the steppes of Central Asia” is a symphonic poem. Of relatively short duration (approximately 6 minutes), this work of descriptive and narrative music can easily be listened to in its entirety. In addition to the two main melodies presented successively then superimposed, we hear a high sound maintained almost constantly, symbolizing the immensity of the steppe; regular pizzicati of the bass strings represent the march of the caravan. The first melody, a Russian song, is very simple; the second, an oriental song, is more ornamented. Borodin constantly varies the instrumentation and nuances. The sheet presents the two melodies successively, then their superposition with the high sound pedal when it is present in the score. (automatic translation)
