On a supple melodic line played by the strings in unison (violins and eventually violas), one can hear consecutively at the trombone the twelve sections of the choral. The superposition of those two elements is taking place on the foundation of the bass played by the cellos. One can find this contrapuntal combination in the Cantata BWV 140 Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme that Bach transcribed himself for the organ, one of the Six Transcribed Chorals entitled “Schübler” BWV 645. Instead of the trombone, one can use the viola section.
The downloading includes, as well as the violin, cello and trombone separate parts, a score for viola to be in unison with the violins and another to eventually replace the trombone. Finally, let us mention that for sake of convenience, the score of the trombone (and that of the viola in the absence of trombone) includes a little stave, which repeats the violin melody, allowing no bars of silence to be fastidiously counted.
