The Orchesography contains a number of musical examples, often very simple. Like much dance music, the Air des Bouffons develops regularly in a space of four times two measures with a main caesura between the fourth and fifth. On only six notes, the melody, entirely conjoined except for a third, is part of a clearly tonal harmonic framework. (automatic translation)
